Before beginning, you need to gain approval from your local school superintendent or school committee. You must demonstrate that you are complying with the schooling requirements of the state by submitting:

a curriculum

a list of material and teaching aids

lesson plans

schedule

daily calendar

your teaching qualifications

your plans for ongoing student progress assessment

your plans for an annual evaluation

You have the right to present your proposal as well as witnesses on your behalf, if necessary, during a school committee meeting. If approval is denied, the reasons should be delineated clearly so that you can revise your proposal accordingly.

The school committee MAY require standardized achievement testing and MAY arrange for visits to or observations of your homeschool by school officials.
